Well, it’s been a while since I’ve made an Ina recipe. Actually, it’s been a while since I’ve made any recipe and then wrote a blog post about it. But last weekend for the first time in a while, I actually had a reason to bake! So I took advantage of it and decided that perhaps it might be good to write a blog post, too.

Over the weekend I attended an Oktoberfest party and I was asked to bake something. Sticking with the German theme, I quickly decided on making a German chocolate cake. But then I realized that for a party, cupcakes might be easier to both make and eat. The dessert becomes finger food, perfect for an outdoor gathering during the last few warms days of the year. Luckily for me, Ina Garten had a German chocolate cupcake recipe. It was like the stars aligned.

Fall Flavor Recipes: Scones, Cakes, and More

Fall has officially arrived! Pumpkin spice lattes, large crisp apples, cooler days and nights, and soon the leaves will be changing colors. Fair season is in full swing in New England. This year, I was able make the trip to The Big E in Massachusetts. It’s New England’s largest fair and runs over two weeks every year. I was really happy to get back there this year, after missing it last year due to my work schedule.

A Return to Baking

Last weekend, I hung up the headset for the final time. The show I have given my life to for the better part of October played its final performance on Sunday. This show taught me a lot about myself, stage management, and theater. Even though the schedule is grueling and I lack sleep during the performance weekends, I always end up looking back on these experiences with nostalgia and joy.

The End of Summer is Near

As we enter the middle of August, I often find myself reflecting on how quickly summer always seems to pass. Unofficially, summer begins on Memorial Day. Officially, it begins between June 20th and 22nd. But, for me, summer begins on my birthday which is in the first week of June. And even though it has no baring, I always associate the Fourth of July with the halfway point of summer.

A Small Carrot Cake for a Celebration

Over the weekend, I made a carrot cake for my friend’s birthday. Since the celebration was small, he didn’t want a large cake. So I had the perfect idea: a 6-inch cake!

I’ve always wanted to make a small cake, so this was the perfect opportunity.

The recipe came from Sally’s Baking Addiction. She has many 6-inch cake recipes on her website and has found that even most cupcake recipes that make between 12-15 cupcakes are the perfect amount of batter for a 6-inch cake.

Here is the end result:

Though the cake didn’t turn out exactly as I would have liked — it become lopsided and the cream cheese frosting was challenging to work with — the cake itself was very tasty and I do recommend trying this recipe for yourself.
